Of particular interest, the Modern Masters section featured 12 films from international directors who set the standards for contemporary cinema. Films selected for this year include: Chagall – Malevich (Russia), Clouds of Sils Maria (France), Dancing Arabs (Israel), An Eye for Beauty (Canada), Gemma Bovery (France), The Humbling (USA), In Order Of Disappearance (Norway/Sweden), Iris (USA), Li’l Quinquin (France), The Perfect Dictatorship (Mexico), Queen and Country (United Kingdom), Red Amnesia (China).

Making its U.S. premiere at the festival, the Russian film Chagall – Malevich caught my eye with its dreamy, surrealist poster. Kristina Schneidermann, the Austrian actress who is playing Bella, Chagall’s wife, was in New York promoting the film in June 2015 and I finally had the chance to catch up with her.
